Resolution on Unification
of the Left, Coalition Policies
and the Opposition Forces
1 On the basis of historical, political and social backgrounds of different
opposition groups , as well as the recent developments in Iran , one can
categorize the opposition into four major tendencies. One must consider
that the dividing lines according to class and social positions , are not
yet complete in certain cases ;nevertheless based on the political platforms
and stances adopted by these groups, the four major tendencies are as follows:
- the left and democratic forces - the national liberal and reformist groups
n Mojahedin and its coalition organ ,,National Council of Resistance"
n - Monarchist groups
2. Unification of the left and coalition are two of the main areas
upon which we willingly cooperate with the left and democratic forces.
These two areas are parallel to each other, and our move in any of them
is decided according to the conditions and possibilities at any given time
and is not conditional upon the other.
Our policy and program in respect to these two areas are as follows
:
The left forces should put an end to the dispersion of their forces
and pave the way towards the creation of a strong left movement if they
want to strengthen their social bases and be determinant in the struggle
against the regime and the establishment of democracy and in the future
social developments. Our propositions for further cooperation, in
the current situation, to all the left organizations, individuals and circles
, who believe that: socialism is the only alternative to capitalism, working
class should be organized as the most determining force in the social transformation
, the Islamic republic must be toppled down by a mass revolution and democracy
should be restored , are as follows:
-Foundation of a joint theoretical political bulletin which reflects
the discussions and debates within the left movement.
Convening joint seminars, meetings and conferences about the discussions
in the bulletin.
- establishing a committee for the defense of the workers' struggles
and rights in Iran; the main task of such a committee is to work on workers'
demands, reflecting the news of their struggles, gathering support for
their movements and so on.
To work and prepare the ground for the creation of a democratic- revolutionary
front , the main objectives of which are the overthrow of the Islamic republic
the establishment of a revolutionary provisional government and the convening
of a constitutional assembly.
Although such a front is very much needed but there is no possibility
to establish it now. In order to prepare the proper background for the
creation of this front and also for more effective organization of the
current activities of the left and democratic forces, a long lasting or
sustainable political institution, on the basis of an agreed pact or platform,
should be established. The only criterion for the presence of the forces
, including organizations, parties, circles and individuals, in this political
institution should be acknowledgment of the mentioned pact. The main goals
of this pact could include the followings:
The overthrow of the Islamic republic, establishing a democratic government,
securing full political and trade-union freedoms, accepting the right to
self-determination of peoples, full separation of religion and state, abolishing
the sexual discrimination and securing equal rights for women, improving
the standard of living of the workers and toilers, ... Our participation
in such a long-lasting political coalition is naturally conditional upon
the acknowledgment of the essentials of the mentioned goals,
3.Our policies in relation to other opposition groups are as follows:
a) We can have cooperation and unity in action with the national-liberal
forces and the reformist left groups who support freedom and certain democratic
reforms in favor of the people and stand against the suppressive policies
of the regime, bearing in mind that we have no bilateral organizational
cooperation or relations with these forces. However their presence in a
common action, which is in accordance with our program will not bar
the way to our participation.
We can have no long-lasting coalition with these forces in the current
situation because they have adopted expedient and opportunist policies
towards the regime; especially spreading the illusory idea that the regime
can reform itself from within, and making such an idea the
basis of their tactics, refrains us from
such a coalition. It is the duty of all those who really believe in
democracy to disclose such compromising and conciliatory positions and
the illusions spread by them.
b) We believe that the ,Organization of Peoples' Mojahedin" and ,National
Council of Resistance" have fallen into a reactionary position in the opposition
movement, because they have neglected more and more the political and social
realities of Iran, leaned and relied on foreign powers, disregarded all
democratic principles in the relations within their organization and in
their relationships with other opposition groups , and have acted as the
guardian of the people of Iran, choosing a government for them. Disclosure
of the reactionary and anti-democratic actions of this organization in
the process of the formation of a popular democratic alternative against
the regime is of necessity. The fact that Moiahedin, like us and some other
organizations, arc against the regime as a whole', does not put our duty
of disclosing their policies into t e shade.
Pro monarchy groups who were brought down by the waves of the popular
Revolution of 1979 and wiped out of the political-social arena , as a result
of the setback that the revolution suffered and thanks to the anti-revolutionary
and reactionary policies of the Islamic regime, have once more risen from
the ashes posing themselves as pro democracy and îndependence movements
under the protection of monarchy. Relying on their foreign masters' supports
and restoring to demagogy, they try to prepare themselves and seize the
power when the opportunity arises.
We must strengthen our struggle and work to unify popular and democratic
forces in the struggle against both monarchy and Islamic regimes by revealing
dictatorial and despotic policies of Shah's regime before the revolution,
and the deliberate silence of pro monarchy groups about the mass executions
and suppression of all progressive movements carried out by the Islamic
regime after the revolution, especially the suppressive policies of this
regime against the people in Kurdistan, and their denial of the fight to
self-determination of peoples. We should not forget that these groups have,
in many
such cases, supported the Islamic regime's policies. these revelations
should also have a special place in out propaganda policies.
